Engagement Matters - a weekend for engaged and pre-engaged couples

Here at H.I.M., we believe that marriage is the second most important decision one makes in life.  Therefore, we set aside two full weekends each year to meet with engaged and pre-engaged couples to talk about preparing for marriage.  Engagement Matters is a weekend experience designed to help these couples confirm God's best for them in their relationship with each other and to help equip them for a marriage in which both God and one another are honored.

Be sure to tell your newly engaged or pre-engaged friends!  This is a fun-filled and wisdom-filled weekend, and it's not uncommon for couples to fly in from other parts of the country in order to attend.  Definitely worth the trip!

Mid-Winter Family Getaway

January 18-20, 2014

Join us for a long weekend in the beautiful Anchorage Inn in York, Maine, for a relaxed mid-winter vacation.

Ever spend thousands of dollars to take your children to places like Disney World-but all they wanted to do was stay at the hotel and swim? This mid-winter getaway won't cost you thousands of dollars, but your kids will have plenty of pool time and you will be part of a relaxed weekend alongside other parents who want to spend time with their kids and be in the company of families with similar values.

Join us from Saturday afternoon, January 18, through Monday mid-day, January 20 (the MLK Jr. birthday 3-day weekend) at the Anchorage Inn at 265 Long Beach Avenue, York Beach, ME 03910. The Anchorage Inn is on Long Sands Beach and its facilities include a fitness center, 2 indoor pools, a hot tub, and a poolside café.  It's going to be a great time for the whole family!

Keeping Up with Paul and Virginia
Friesen sisters with Brandon and Nathan
During a packed-full summer of eight weeks of family camp (six on the west coast and two on the east coast, all with the theme "The Caring Family"), and without missing a beat, Paul and Virginia welcomed grandchild number two when Derek and Julie (Friesen) Johnson welcomed their first child, Nathan, into the family in late July.  Though the Johnsons minister full-time at the CURE pediatric hospital in Mbale, Uganda, their son Nathan Scott was born here in the States, as planned, and Virginia was able to be present at his birth!  She tells the miraculous story here.  The whole Friesen clan (and all of us here at H.I.M., too) have been celebrating ever since, continuing as Gabe and Kari (Friesen) Garcia produced yet another Friesen grandchild just two months later when little Ana Marie was born.  All the babies and mamas are healthy and thriving.

Four generations of women: introducing Ana

Visiting and helping to care for grand-babies has therefore been a theme for Paul and Virginia these last few months, though they have continued to speak, write, and counsel in and around all the precious baby times.  As in recent years, they have been meeting weekly with the Patriot couples this fall, and Virginia meets with the Patriot wives at a different weekly gathering as well.  Their counseling hours are routinely filled, and very few weekends find them at home in Bedford.  It's a gift when they're in town!

We extend our thanks to you, once again, for your love for Paul and Virginia, for their family, and for their ministry, in which you share.  Thanks for supporting them with love, prayers, and financial gifts.  All three of those contribute towards making it possible for them to pour grace-God's riches of wisdom and mercy and love-into the lives of others.  We pray that you, too, will draw on God to pour grace into your own family, friends, neighbors, and co-workers.  If H.I.M. can partner with you in that work via some of our resources (books, DVDs, events, or even recipes), our ministry will be extended through you yet again.  All praise to God!
