Memorial Day Camping Trip

Friday, May 24 - Monday, May 27, 2013
Quechee State Park, Hartford, VT

It may only be mid-January, but it's already time to plan for spring and reserve your site for the annual H.I.M. Memorial Day camping trip at beautiful Quechee State Park in Vermont. As usual, the program will be relaxed.  Families are on their own for both breakfast and lunch.  A common evening meal is served with each family helping in preparation or clean-up once during the weekend. Arrival is Friday afternoon, with a Monday departure.

The cost for the weekend is $70 for the camp site, plus $20 per adult and each child ages 12 years old and older, and $10 per child ages 2 - 11.  There is no per person charge for children under 2 years old.  Fees include campsite, dinner each evening, and snacks at the campfire each evening.  There are four sites available with lean-to's, on a first-come, first-served basis, for an additional charge of $20.  If you are interested in one of these sites, please mention this when you register.

For more information, see the details and registration information here.  Campsites are limited, so don't delay.  It's a wonderful weekend, and we hope to see you there!

Keeping Up with Paul and Virginia

Friesen clan on the beach
Paul and Virginia have just finished a full-to-overflowing month of memorable family moments, rest, rejuvenation, and renewal.  It began with all three of their daughters, their two sons-in-law, and one beautiful grandson gathering together to celebrate an early Christmas down in Florida at the lovely vacation home of friends who generously shared it with them.  Follow Virginia's blog to read about their various activities during these last few weeks.  Earlier this week Virginia wrote, "The End to our family reunion was written Monday night as we bid farewell to Derek and Julie and sent them back to Uganda.  Let the New Year begin!"

Indeed, they're now off and rolling into the year, having left this week for a 12-day ministry tour in California and Colorado.  If you're out that way, be sure to check the calendar above to see if you can attend any of their events.  They'd love to see you!

Working backwards in time: Friesens welcomed in December with a half-day H.I.M.-sponsored conference, new this year, called "The Church Family and Your Family," designed to encourage churches to intentionally and practically support marriages and families.  A group of around 30 people, representing about 8 local churches, gathered for a lively morning of discussion and inspiration.  A good beginning!

Irony of Intimacy Conference And jumping back to last fall, Paul and Virginia continued speaking, writing, and counseling--as well as meeting with Patriots couples each week.  In mid-November, they were the featured speakers at the H.I.M. fall marriage conference, held in Nashua, NH, on "The Irony of Intimacy."  Attendees came from across New England, as far away as the New York city area, and all were touched by the call to serve our spouses sacrificially.  The material Friesens presented there is the subject of their newest book on marriage--still in the editorial phase.  But watch for its publication to be announced in the next month or two.  In the meantime, please pray for those involved in the book's production and design, and for Paul and Virginia as they continue to write additional books, that God will use their words to help us better understand His design for marriages and families.
