This is the final opportunity to attend until Fall, so spread the word!

Keeping Up with Paul and Virginia

Friesens, Kranings, and OertlisSince our January issue, Paul and Virginia have accumulated thousands of frequent flier miles!  During a 12-day trip to the Pacific Northwest, they spoke 18 different times to a very diverse slate of audiences--including church staff, junior and senior high students, young moms, and lots of couples.

They returned in time to host a wonderful marriage weekend: H.I.M.'s "Legacy of Love" conference held in Newport, Rhode Island, featuring guest speakers Bob and Carol Kraning.  Shown at the left are Paul and Virginia with the Kranings and Danny and Rayna Oertli, who led worship for the weekend.  Many couples wrote afterwards of how much the weekend meant to them and how grateful they were for this time apart.

Book Cover for 'Before You Save the Date'Soon after the conference the Friesens flew to Charleston, South Carolina, where they taught on both marriage and parenting. And as I write this, they are in Dallas, Texas, speaking to a conference full of professional athletes.  This is only fair, since they are looking forward to having a few professional athletes speak at the upcoming H.I.M. Worth It! (sexual purity) conference on April 10.   :)   Don't miss hearing from Kassidy and David Thomas (tight end for the New Orleans Saints) and Don Davis (retired from the New England Patriots), as well as Brian and Heather Dietz, Julie Friesen, Jess and Elizabeth Bousa, and of course, Paul and Virginia themselves!  It's going to be a great conference.

By the way, Paul and Virginia usually use their in-flight time to write blog posts, pen thank you notes, prepare outlines . . . or work on their latest books.  Speaking of which, we're delighted to announce a new book by Paul, now being prepared for printing: "Before You Save the Date: 21 Questions to help you marry with confidence."  We're hoping to have it available for purchase some time in April.  Watch for details!

Cinnamon RollsRAISED CINNAMON ROLLS

Prepare a  9x13" pan with:
1/2 cup margarine, melted & evenly poured on pan bottom
10 Tbsp. brown sugar, evenly sprinkled over margarine
2/3 cup chopped walnuts, evenly distributed over brown sugar
Dissolve yeast in lukewarm water:
    1 Tbsp. yeast
    1/4 cup lukewarm water
Add to dissolved yeast, mixing until smooth:
    1 cup lukewarm milk
    1/4 cup sugar
    1 tsp salt
    1 egg
    4 Tbsp. margarine, softened
    1-3/4 cups flour
Work into dough until it handles easily:
1-3/4 to 2 cups flour (approx.)

Turn dough out onto floured board; divide dough into pieces which are easy to handle and knead each piece until smooth and elastic, about 10-15 minutes.  Place kneaded dough into large greased mixing bowl.  Grease top of dough with salad oil and cover bowl with a cloth; set bowl in warm place.  Let rise until double, about 1-1/2 hours.

Roll out the dough in a rectangle.  Brush with melted margarine and sprinkle with cinnamon-sugar mixture.  To prepare cinnamon-sugar mixture, combine thoroughly:
    1/2 cup sugar
    2 1/2 tsp. cinnamon

Roll up dough, starting from the long edge, stretching slightly as you go.  Seal edge carefully and tightly, evening up the roll.  Cut roll into 1" thick pieces and lay in pan.  Allow to rise 45-60 minutes.  Bake at 350 degrees for 25-30 minutes.  Invert onto another pan immediately.   Makes 8-10 rolls.

Options:  For frosted rolls, skip the brown sugar/margarine step.  Place rolls in greased pan.  When baked and cooled slightly, frost with glaze.  For raisin rolls, sprinkle raisins (which have been soaked in warm water) on cinnamon-sugar mixture.  Roll up and proceed as directed.
Thanks for supporting Paul and Virginia and all of the Home Improvement Ministries activities--whether East or West, whether in-flight or on the ground.  And may you be encouraged as God uses your life to serve Him--wherever you are and wherever you go.
