Virginia addresses PAO Women

The Pro Athletes Outreach (pao.org) women's ministry recently invited VIrginia to participate in their conference call ministry. Afterwards, the organizer emailed a link to the recording with these words, "Our call with Virginia this morning was perhaps the best synopsis and teaching I've heard on God's design for male and female roles in marriage, how that design has been disrupted by the fall (found in Genesis 3), and the solution to our broken tendencies as women (found in Ephesians 5). This is one of those talks that could change the course of your life and marriage, so I strongly encourage you to listen to it. I pray you are richly blessed by it!"
H.I.M. Produces Relationship Video Featuring NFL Couples

Kirsten and Benjamin Watson discuss God's design for relationships
In this 9-minute video, five NFL players and their spouses or fiancées speak frankly, practically, and Biblically about decisions they made in the area of relationships. Through stories of failure and success, determination and grace, they give instruction, encouragement, and hope to those wanting to have healthy opposite sex relationships that honor God and each other.

This free link has been used as a discussion starter and teaching tool to many youth. If you choose to download it, we would love to hear how you used it and how it was used in students' lives.

Twice a year, Paul and Virginia Friesen offer engaged and pre-engaged couples a special weekend full of laughter, teaching, and a plethora of unparalleled resources for preparing for marriage, including talks on temperament differences, communication, and all that God designed marriage to be.  It's an amazing weekend and previous attendees rave about it. Next spring, Engagement Matters will be offered again on the first weekend in April.

PUMPKIN STREUSEL MUFFINS

Ingredients:
    1/2 cup butter, softened
    1 cup packed brown sugar
    1 egg
    1 cup canned plain pumpkin
    1/4 cup evaporated milk
    1 tsp. baking soda
    1/2 tsp. salt
    1 1/4 tsp. cinnamon
    1/4 tsp. powdered ginger
    1/8 tsp. ground cloves
    1 2/3 cups flour

Streusel topping:
    2 TB. flour
    2 1/2 TB. white sugar
    1 tsp. cinnamon
    1 TB. butter

Preheat oven to 375 degrees. Cream together the butter and brown sugar. Add the egg and blend.  Mix together the pumpkin and evaporated milk and then mix into the butter/sugar mixture.  Add the baking soda and spices and gently mix.  Lastly, add the flour and stir; don't over stir, as it makes the muffins tough.

Pour the batter into 8 greased large muffin tin cups or 12 regular. In a small bowl, blend the streusel ingredients together with a fork until the topping is about the size of small peas.  Sprinkle the topping over the muffins and then bake at 375 for approximately 22-25 minutes for an 8-muffin batch, or 18-22 minutes for a smaller 12-muffin batch.

Enjoy!

Keeping Up with Paul and Virginia

The Friesens have continued their globe-trotting this past spring and summer, serving not only from coast to coast in the U.S., but returning to both Trinidad (in April) and Uganda (in May) to minister to marriages and families there.  After their usual summer of ministry at Campus by the Sea, they have picked up their counseling ministry here in the Boston area (though they squeeze in a fair amount of it wherever they go) as well as their weekly ministries to NFL New England Patriots couples and separately to Patriots wives (Virginia).  Other states on their itinerary in the last few months have included Michigan, Pennsylvania, Vermont, Tennessee, Colorado, California, North Carolina, and New Hampshire!

Paul and Virginia celebrated 40 years of marriage together while in Trinidad last April.
This year has been marked by a number of celebrations commemorating Paul and Virginia's 40th wedding anniversary. In fact, some of you may have participated in that commemoration in some way (thank you!).  They spent their actual anniversary (this past April) ministering in Trinidad through speaking at a marriage conference and counseling, and those wonderful people surprised them with a cake at the conference banquet.  Later in the summer, the Friesens' daughters put on a west coast celebration where Paul
and Virginia renewed their vows. Various family campers out on Catalina also feted them. And once the intense summer of family camp ministry was finished, their own personal
celebration was to return to the hotel in San Diego where they spent their wedding night more than 40 years before.  Praise God for all the ways He has used them to teach us and encourage us in these past four decades!  Can you imagine how much laughter and how many tears and how many changed lives there have been because of their faithfulness to each other and to God's call on their lives?  They have been a great gift.

Thank you for all the ways you have supported Paul and Virginia through notes, prayers, and financial support.  As you can well imagine, the past 40 years have been full of not only blessings but trials and testings, and this year is no exception. But God has used all of it to strengthen their dependence on Him, and our own faith as well as they model that continued dependence. Praise God!

Blessings,
Barbara Steele
