"Marriage Strong" Marriage Retreat

 March 4-6, 2016

Living in New England, we build to withstand storms. We may live years without actual damage from threatening weather, then suddenly it surprises us with a vengeance. So it is in marriage.  At the retreat, we will focus on how to intentionally protect our marriages.
This year's annual marriage retreat will once again be held in beautiful Newport, Rhode Island, at the Hyatt Regency Hotel on Goat Island. We are delighted to announce that our speakers this year will be Drs. Paul and Virginia Friesen. Plan now to attend.  Early bird rates are available through December 4th.

What People Are Saying

Letters to my Daughters
"I recently ended an on-again off-again two-year relationship and was having a very difficult time with it because it seemed so serious at the time. So I finally read Letters to My Daughters and it spoke so much truth into my situation and gave me so much peace in my decision and hope for whatever my future holds. I can also honestly say that I am more content than I have ever been in being single and all the blessings that it holds!"

"I am very grateful for your having written the book. It spoke so much truth into my life and into the lives of more people than I'm sure you even know! It really is such a blessing. Much of it was on my heart and my mind. I really had never heard a lot of what was in there and it was so important to understand. It has absolutely changed the way I view dating and relationships and marriage and I think my friends feel the same."

The Marriage App
"I am very thankful for your simple to read and understand "The Marriage APP". Men like me are a little blocked when it comes to emotions/feelings (or at least the right feelings) and your book puts it in plain English that I can understand and apply. I also have been using the APP and the daily activities are just the thing I need to remind me how important my wife is to me being whole as God has intended and that a good relationship doesn't just happen, it needs efforts. I am excited about how the next few weeks and months will evolve as I put our message to work.  In the future, I plan on using your materials as part of our couples small group. Thanks again for doing this important work."

"We wanted to give you a quick update on the Marriage App class that we just finished at church. We began in August for a 12-week journey through your book. There were 20 committed couples (on a Tuesday night, no less!) that we split into 4 groups, each with a table facilitator. We began the evening in our groups discussing the questions at the end of the chapter. Bottom line...and what we really want to pass along...is that you two have done an amazing job on this tool, 'The Marriage App'!! Every couple was so thankful for how you offered the perfect balance of what Scripture says about marriage and how to apply it. Biblical. Practical. Personal. There was a couple at our table (the husband turned 76 during our class), married 34 years, who commented that they were so encouraged by this book that they intend to go back to chapter one and just keep reading and applying. :)  Another couple (also married 34 years) said that of all the marriage material they have gone through, this was by far the best!"

Marriage Conference
"We want to thank you again for the Conference you presented. You both hit a home run with both of us and because we are so different - not only in gender and temperament, but also in knowledge-base and faith experience - that is amazing. I particularly appreciated your insight that the differences are God's way of helping us love others.  I also thought the reflection on what submission is and isn't was the best explanation I've ever heard, and I've heard a lot of them."

Keeping Up with Paul and Virginia

Paul and Virginia have had a very full fall, including their weekly Patriots couples study, Virginia's weekly Patriot wives and partners gathering, marriage counseling appointments, and speaking at Mom to Mom groups and at church-sponsored marriage conferences on many weekends.  As usual, Virginia posts great photos and details of their active ministry life on her blog.  (Her photos are wonderful, so even if you don't read every word, you should visit it often.)

One very exciting and not-so-weekly event that has brought them great joy in these last weeks is the arrival of their fourth grandchild, Rachel Ann Johnson, born to their youngest daughter, Julie, and her husband, Derek. The icing on the cake is that earlier this year, Julie and Derek moved from Uganda to Pennsylvania!  So little Rachel Ann (and her big brother, Nathan) are now in range for lots of grand-parental attention.  (Welcome back stateside, Johnsons!)

It's worth noting that this summer, Paul and Virginia wrapped up their final east coast family camp at Camp Berea in Hebron, NH. They will return as guest speakers there in future years, while meanwhile, the Berea staff has pledged to continue their wonderful program. This isn't the only family camp that the Friesens' Campus-by-the-Sea heritage has reached. Did you know that earlier this year they helped inaugurate a new family camp in Tennessee and spoke at a new family camp in Michigan?

Your support and encouragement has been vital to being able to take advantage of these family-building, God's Kingdom-renewing opportunities.  Thank you, thank you. In this season of Thanksgiving, H.I.M. gives thanks for YOU.

Blessings,
Barbara Steele
