Interview with Paul Friesen to be aired by Focus on the Family
Focus on the Family LogoWe're delighted to tell you that Paul Friesen's interview with Dr. Bill Maier about Paul's book Letters to My Daughters will air on Focus on the Family's Weekend Magazine broadcast during the month of June.  Paul's daughters Kari and Lisa also participate in the interview.

You can learn more about these broadcasts when you visit the Weekend Magazine website.  If you click on the "Find a station" link (towards the lower right side of the webpage), you will be directed through a series of pull-down menus where you'll need to list the program "Weekend Magazine" and your metro area.  That will indicate a station in your local area where you can listen to the program.  In the Boston area, it is heard on Saturday mornings at 6 am on WEZE AM 590.  Or you can simply listen online.  We hope you will!

We are also pleased to announce that in addition to offering Letters to My Daughters as one of their recommended resources, Focus on the Family has chosen to carry Viriginia's book Raising a Trailblazer: Rite-of-Passage Trail Markers for Your Set-Apart Teen as well.  We thank God for this wonderful opportunity to partner in spreading His Truth for families.
Pool Party re-scheduled   ·   Saturday, June 7   ·   11 am - 3 pm
Paul and Virginia FriesenThe original date was rained out, so you have a second chance to attend the annual H.I.M. Picnic and Pool Party, now re-scheduled for this Saturday, June 7.  Bring the whole family for a great time of swimming, games, food, and fellowship. The event runs from 11 am to 3 pm, with lunch being served at 12:30 pm.

Hang out with your family and friends, and meet new families that share a desire to raise healthy, God-honoring children and have vital marriages.  Everyone is free to play games on the lawn, swim, talk, and relax.  Join Paul and Virginia Friesen and the H.I.M. family.  Hear all the latest information about upcoming H.I.M. events.

Parents are asked to supervise their own children, and one-piece bathing suits are required.  There is no charge for this event, but you do need to RSVP by Thursday, June 5, with the number who will be attending.  Do this on our website or by calling 781-275-6473.  The event is being held in Weston, Massachusetts.  Directions will be provided in response to your RSVP.  Hope to see you there!   Pool Party Details and Online RSVP
Family Camp spots open at Berea   ·   August 16-22, 2008
HIM/Berea Family Camp LogoWe have good news for you!  If you and your family have thought about attending H.I.M./Berea Family Camp this summer but were discouraged to learn you'd have to get on the waiting list, you'll be glad to know that Family Camp II (August 16-22) now has openings for up to 10 new families.  There is still a waiting list for Family Camp I (August 9-15), but if that's a better week for you, it's certainly worth getting on the waiting list just in case.  Call Camp Berea now and register at 603-744-6344.

"The Set-Apart Family" will be the theme for the 2008 Family Camps.  Through a study from the life of Moses, we will explore God's design for us to be a set-apart people-families who honor Him and each other.  Rev. David Hegg of Northpoint Evangelical Free Church in Corona, California, will be the guest speaker this year.  He and his wife Cherylyn were with us at Family Camp 2004 and many folks requested that we invite them back.  We are thrilled to have them!
"The Beauty of This Place" Marriage Conference  ·  September 26-28, 2008
Paul and Virginia FriesenYou are invited to join us this fall, September 26-28, as H.I.M. partners with Positive 89.3 FM Radio Network of Freeport, Maine, to present "The Beauty of This Place" Marriage Conference.  The conference will be held at the Sebasco Harbor Resort in Phippsburg, Maine, just three hours from Boston in one of the most beautiful surroundings that America has to offer: Maine in autumn!

Paul and Virginia will be the speakers, and their topics will range from raising kids to be followers of Christ, to making our marriages go from average to excellent!  We'll also be joined in music by singer/songwriter/worship leader Laura Story, composer of the worship song "Indescribable."  For more information or to register, click here or call Jeff Wall at Positive FM 207-865-3448 x103.
MySpace / Facebook Seminar  ·  Saturday, June 14  ·  10 am - Noon
Paul and Virginia Friesen"The Good, the Bad, and the Ugly," a free seminar for parents on "how to discern what is good and how to discover how the good masks the bad and the ugly, and decide whether it is worth it or not!" will be presented by Garden City Life Church at the Hannah Elementary School in Beverly, Massachusetts on Saturday, June 14, from 10 am to noon.  This is not an H.I.M. event, but we recommend it!  For more information, click here.
From the Friesen Bakery

One 9" pie shell, baked

Glaze: Mix and cook over medium heat until thickened:
1 cup water (and/or juice from selected fruit)
    1 cup sugar
2 tablespoons (plus a little) cornstarch
Then add:  2 tablespoons peach or strawberry jello, dry

While glaze is cooking, prepare the fresh fruit as directed below.

For peach pie:  Peel and slice 7-8 large fresh peaches (or nectarines), and to keep the fruit from discoloring if you won't be glazing the slices immediately, briefly place in bowl of water with about 2 tablespoons of lemon juice.  Drain well; mix with peach glaze and place in baked pie shell.  Refrigerate until firm; serve with whipped cream.

For strawberry pie: Wash and hull 3 baskets (pints) of fresh strawberries.  Slice in half (or leave whole if you prefer), place in baked pie shell, and pour strawberry glaze over all.  Refrigerate until firm; serve with whipped cream.

Paul and Virginia FriesenDo you know how many miles Paul and Virginia log each year as they travel and speak?  It's about 65,000 each!  The energy to do that is a result of your prayer support, and we thank you profusely.  The fruit of your prayers is further seen in the lives of the many individuals who write in after an event, pouring our their gratitude and appreciation.

This past month, Virginia and her daughter Kari were the featured speakers at Camp Berea's annual mother/daughter conference in Hebron, NH.  In keeping with the conference's "Wizard of Oz" theme, Virginia and Kari taught on loving the Lord your God with all your heart, soul, mind, and strength by cleverly referring to the woeful laments of the scarecrow ("If I only had a brain"), the tin man ("If I only had a heart"), and the cowardly lion ("If I only had the nerve" (courage)).  Meanwhile, Paul presented a well-received seminar at the Iron Sharpens Iron conference in Worcester on Raising Godly Sons and Daughters Who Will Be (and Be Drawn to) Godly Mates.

Later in the month, Paul and Virginia traveled together to Pennsylvania to give an all-day Saturday parenting conference at John and Marilyn Nugent's church, Church of the Savior, followed by Sunday morning teaching on marriage to a number of adult education classes.  (Read more about their activities on their blog.)

Soon Paul and Virginia will be preparing to travel to Catalina Island in California to begin the summer season of family camping.  Please continue to pray for their ministry and for a steady outpouring of God's spirit onto and into their lives.  You're a team member, and H.I.M. couldn't do it without you!
