True Love Waits-Family Edition:  March 29 in Hopkinton, March 30 on the Cape
Emily and Grant WilliamsOn Saturday, March 29, at the First Congregational Church in Hopkinton, MA, H.I.M. is sponsoring a day-long "True Love Waits-Family Edition" conference for teens and parents from 9 am to 3 pm.

On Sunday, March 30, at Christ Chapel in Centerville, MA (on Cape Cod), H.I.M. is repeating the entire conference for teens and parents from 1:30 pm to 8 pm.

Why teens AND parents? Because "True Love Waits" alone statistically only delays sexual involvement. 80% of students who sign abstinence cards are sexually active before marriage. But when the family is involved together, that statistic drops dramatically.

This year's teaching team includes:

  • Grant and Emily Williams, formerly with the New England Patriots and St. Louis Rams;
  • David and Kassidy Thomas of the New England Patriots;
  • Brian and Heather Dietz, Middle School Pastor at Grace Chapel;
  • Julie Friesen, recently graduated captain of the national lacrosse champions from Cal Poly University;
  • Lisa Friesen, an athletic trainer at Mission Prep High School in California; and
  • Paul and Virginia Friesen of Home Improvement Ministries.

All the details about the conference are online here.  If you have questions or would like a brochure (or a stack of them to hand out), you can send email to Barbara@HIMweb.org or call Barbara at 781-275-6473.

We challenge you to consider how important it is to learn as a parent how to better relate to your teen on this subject. You'll be exposing your teen to great teaching and to some very cool young men and women who are encouraging teens to believe that the creator of sex really does know what He's doing when He calls us to sexual purity.

If you have attended a True Love Waits conference before, bring a friend and come again. This will be a dynamic and unforgettable day.

Engagement Matters:  Saturday, April 12 to Sunday, April 13
EM07 BannerIn his book, So You Want to Marry My Daughter?, Dr. Paul Friesen writes, "To make a sports team, you study the plays, follow the conditioning plan, and try out to make the team. To be in a theatrical performance, you take drama classes, study the script, ask others to coach you, and then audition to see if you’re a good 'fit' for the cast. But to get married, you get a marriage license, have just about anyone perform the ceremony, and you’re married."

Don't make the mistake of jumping into a lifetime commitment unprepared. H.I.M. offers you (or your friends and relatives) a great opportunity to join with other couples in exploring the significance and security of marriage as it was meant to be. The Engagement Matters weekend is a two-day conference for engaged and pre-engaged couples at which Paul and Virginia and several assisting couples will offer foundation-building insights on God's design for marriage-to help make sure you as a couple are ready. This is the final weekend to be offered until Fall, so spread the word:  April 12-13, 2008.

Home Improvement Ministries hosts two Marriage Conferences
Danny Oertli ConcertEarlier this month, Paul and Virginia Friesen hosted the first of two H.I.M. marriage conferences themed "Oasis: A Pause and a Place to Refresh Your Marriage," and this first conference was truly an oasis for all. Held at the beautiful Ocean Edge Resort in Brewster, Massachusetts, attendees were treated to a several hours of glorious sunshine on Saturday, perfectly timed for a walk on the beach during the afternoon free time!  Guest speaker Gary Gaddini inspired and challenged everyone with his insights and encouragement to honor God's design for our marriages.  Danny and Rayna Oertli led us in worship and treated us to a concert of fun and original music on Saturday evening--complete with glow sticks and popcorn!

Eagle Mountain HouseThe April "Oasis" marriage conference, to be held at the Eagle Mountain House in Jackson, New Hampshire, is almost full.  If you've been meaning to register but haven't yet done so, please call 781-275-6473 immediately to see if spaces remain, or click here for more information.

April 4-6, 2008        $320 per couple

    Butter or margarine (room temp)    1/2 cup
    Granulated sugar    1 cup
    Eggs    2 large
    Vanilla    1 tsp.
    Baking powder    2 tsp.
    Salt    1/4 tsp.
    Blueberries    1-1/2 cups fresh or 12 oz. frozen, unsweetened, unthawed
    Flour    2 cups
    Milk    1/2 cup

Heat oven to 375 degrees.  Grease muffin cups or line with paper baking cups.  In a medium-sized bowl beat butter with a wooden spoon or electric mixer until creamy.  Add sugar and beat until pale and fluffy.  Add eggs one at a time, beating after each addition.  Beat in vanilla, baking powder and salt.  If using fresh blueberries mash 1/2 cup and stir into batter.  With a rubber spatula, fold half the flour, then half the milk into the batter.  Repeat with remaining flour and milk.  Fold in remaining fresh blueberries or all the frozen.  Spoon batter into the muffin cups; sprinkle with topping:

    Granulated sugar    1 Tbsp.
    Nutmeg    1/4 tsp.

Bake 25-30 minutes until golden brown and top feels springy to the touch when pressed.  Mmmmmm...
How very grateful we are for your prayer and support of the work and ministry of Paul and Virginia.  You are partners in bringing hope, help, and encouragement to families and marriages.  And with your help, their ministry is expanding!  We are very excited about the new publications. Please continue to keep their lives and ministry in your prayers.  And enjoy the muffins!

Sincerely,

Barbara Steele
